About Above Connecticut
Named after a wrong turn taken on vacation, this four piece modern rock outfit has been electrifying stages in the Philadelphia music scene since 2011. Their hard working blue collar attitude shines through in their writing and stage show. It also doesn't hurt that Above Connecticut has a knack for leaving the audience with an instantly hum-able tune stuck in their head.
With the release of their debut album "Untitled" vocalist Derek Franchetti, guitarist Tom Connolly, bassist Kris Kamp, and drummer Mark Wilson give their own perspective on modern rock with influences ranging from the timeless sounds of Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath to the raw unadulterated power of Pantera and Megadeth with a bit of Primus sprinkled atop. The band takes the listener on a diverse musical journey with the strong metal riffage of "Dogs" to the punk inspired melody in "N.M.E." and ending with the blues inspired tone of "Last Night".
Formed in early 2011 after singer Derek accepted a "Myspace" ad for "Drummer Looking" posted by Mark. The two met up down the street from the South Philly corner where the major motion picture "10th and Wolf" took its name and started laying the ground work for the music soon to come. Line up changes gave way to Kris Kamp joining on bass and Tom Connolly on lead guitar. With the current members taking their places Above Connecticut began work on the album that would become "Untitled".
Above Connecticut just finished up on their sophomore ep "READY, DAMAGE, DOWN" and will have albums and merchandise for sale at every event. 2013 has been an exciting year for the band, with new music and new terrain still to cover.
