Since 2001, Heather Lloyd (guitar, vocals, djembe) and Rob Hinkal (guitar, vocals) have been fronting the Baltimore-based quartet, ilyAIMY (i love you And I Miss You). Touring nationally as a duo for more than 6 years, it's agreed: "all they need is two acoustic guitars and a djembe" to sound as full as rock band," but they also write award-winning folk songs. ilyAIMY was honored at the prestigious Kerrville New Folk, Mountain Stage Newsong, Eddie's Attic Acoustic Shootout, the Cape Fear Folk Festival and the Susquehanna Music and Arts Festival (twice) ... all in the same year.
The sound: Percussive acoustic guitar that references folk, rock, Americana and alternative, with lush male-female harmony and tribal percussion. Called "a welcome jolt in ... folk" and "an acoustically roiling, combustible attack on the usual singer/songwriter fare" by reviewers, they have been compared to everything from Buckingham/Nicks to Ani DiFranco to an acoustic Tool to Rusted Root.
After Heather recently returned from backing Dar Williams on her Promised Land Tour, ilyAIMY went back into the studio and released "A Gift For Saint Cecilia" in August 2009, which immediately received an award from the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest.
Most recently, ilyAIMY finished No. 7 in the D.C. Lilith contest. Heather is currently working on a solo CD, to be released in September.
