Authentic 11 is known throughout Kansas City as a multi-talented hip-hop artist, songwriter and music producer, inspiring his fans to believe he is “the one to save hip-hop.” Creating his first mix-tape at 15 and finishing his first album at 18, Authentic 11 is currently working on another mix-tape titled "The Invasion" and a second album titled "It's Round One." He hopes to inspire and diversify his fans through his universal lyrics and take his music as far as his talent and determination will convey.
Authentic 11 was born in 1991 as Christopher Washington in Baltimore, Maryland. The youngest of four siblings, he faced harsh times and difficult situations early on in life; forced to move from various locations along the east coast because of marital difficulties. He eventually relocated to Kansas City when he was 15.
As he grew older he isolated himself from the outside world to spend time dealing with his emotions. Never completely developing the socials skills needed to interact with others his age, Authentic 11 found music as a way to express him-self.
Exhausted from feeling like an outcast, he reached out to his older siblings for strength and guidance. While observing his brother's enjoying creating music, Authentic 11 began to write and produce songs expressing his inner turmoil about his life and the world surrounding him. Having listened to different genres of music as a child, Authentic 11 was most intrigued by the art of hip-hop. He found it a constructive way to release suppressed feelings that lay dormant within him. He was musically influenced by artists such as 2 Pac Shakur, Eminem, Maroon 5, Lil Wayne and Korn among others.
The name Authentic 11 finally came about as a way to define who he was. He had numerous nicknames growing up, but none of which expressed who he wanted to be. He wanted to be on top, the alpha, the first thing that people see, so he knew he wanted his name to start with the first letter of the alphabet. One day, he came across a Dr. Pepper soda can that stated itself as having an “authentic taste.” He thought about the style of his music and realized that “authentic” defined him well. The number 11 has followed him during the course of his life so he finally settled on Authentic 11 as his stage him. Although describing a drink, former Dr. Pepper CEO and President, W.W. Clements, describes Authentic 11 best. “It's a different kind of drink with a unique taste all its own.”
At 18, Authentic 11 has created his first solo album “It’s 11 O’clock,” working a minimum wage job during the day and staying up all night in the studio to record. The album was inspired by his life and how he broke free from a troublesome past to try and create something great for him-self. His influential lyrics teach us that “you have to survive the darkness to live in the light.” Now, almost 20 years old, Authentic 11 has succeeded in finishing his first official project (album), independently written and produced. He currently performs at America’s Pub and Damage Control, bringing in a diverse fan base. With these accomplishments, Authentic 11 is now anxious to share the rest of his work with the world.
