This album almost didn't happen. At two points over the past 10 months, "Modern Love" was scrapped; the songs are hard - not musically (though expertly played), but in terms of character study - even harder for me to put my own experience into song for the first time in my life, and probably hardest for the rest of the band to put up with the fleeting, fickle, batshit crazy attitude of it all.
It's a wonder we didn't break up.
Instead, what we have are ten solid songs about the state of the modern relationship. Songs about instant access, undesired access, texts and emails, photos and tweets, and most of all - in that Heartbreakers kind of way - winners and losers in love.
"I'm still keeping score but I'll lose either way. Well, alright." -Games
Modern Love is at once a manifesto and an indictment. It's a band at a sonic, almost chemical peak, and a man at a personal low. And it's all right here for you to digest for free.
