Gravy and Rice Up and coming music artists, Gravy and Rice, are not your average side dish. The duo, Charlie “P” Brown and Surge FlowHot, can hold their own as the main course meal as they burst on to the music scene. They exhibit diversity through their music, which intermixes across various genres to produce a unique, new flavor with a sound unable to be characterized by so simple a description. Each song has its own individual feel to it, and their versatility and ingenuity stems from the pair’s diverse and cultured upbringings. Gravy and Rice is comprised of Philippine born Surge FlowHot and Louisiana native Charlie “P” Brown. As rice is essential to the Filipino diet, as is gravy down South, hence the name. The pair met in Los Angeles and began making music together from within the group, Drama Gang—a network of multi-talented music artists from all walks of life, supporting one another through the “everyday struggle,” and helping each other improve musically and rise up in the music industry. Surge FlowHot, known also as Mr. Espinosa, and Charlie “P” Brown, also going by the name C. Bizzle, are Gravy and Rice of Drama Gang. To date, Charlie “P” Brown and Surge FlowHot have worked with a multitude of talented artists and producers. For their current Gravy and Rice album, they worked with Royal16 under EMI Records. And off of the album, the music video for their single “Hypnotized” features gifted actor, Bokeem Woodbine. As for their newest single, “I’m Perked,” it has a "Hyphy/Rock and Roll" vibe, says FlowHot. “I’m Perked” displays the artists’ lyrical skills over a hit beat.
