Deborah Wedekind (pronounced: Wee-dee-kind) brings an uplifting pop approach to timeless standards we all know and love. Said to sound “like a cross between Linda Ronstadt and Michael Buble”, she certainly has a style all her own. In her new CD, Clear Skies Ahead, her original arrangements are only outshone by her vocal clarity and range.
From Jason Miles, 4-time Grammy Nominated Producer and Grammy Winner, “A wonderful performance…Deborah knows how to take an Iconic song and turn it into her own- She’s a talent that needs to be watched. There could be big things in store for her in the future…Deborah Wedekind is an absolutely superb vocalist who with some luck and good experience behind her can definitely be a vital part of the music scene for many years. A superb talent!"
Deborah lives in Kingwood, and won a Singer Universe.com February 2012 National Top 5 Vocalist Award for her original song, Psalm on Danny Boy, where she takes a well-loved tune, and adds haunting lyrics to her unique arrangement. She also won a national Singer Universe Top 5 Vocalist spot in January 2012 for her original arrangement of I Dreamed a Dream.
She recorded her CD, Clear Skies Ahead, in 2011, at Absolute Sound studios in Houston. Her producer, Troy Warren, ranks Deborah’s CD as his “top project in over 30 years of working in sound production”. Here is what This is Kingwood has to say about her:
“…Deborah could and probably should be lumped in more with classic artists like Astrud Gilberto (Girl from Impanema), Peggy Lee, Rosemary Clooney and Lena Horne. She’s that good. Her silky smooth voice stays…young and fresh while exhibiting a classically trained experience one can only gain from being, well, that good. If you get a chance to check out one of her performances, do yourself a favor and make the effort, you’ll be glad you did.”
Additionally, Deborah’s original sexy-Latin arrangement of the classic, Till There Was You, reached #1 on the Top 10 Latin Jazz chart worldwide. Psalm on Danny Boy is now playing on the radio nationwide across the US, and is featured on internet radio around the world.
Deborah “hears the music” in her head, and feels that writing songs and arranging them, along with performing, are her life’s calling now: a divine gift so to speak. She wrote or arranged all the songs for Clear Skies Ahead, and has several new original songs ready to record.
