DOB: 1/31/86
Anthony Charles “A.C.” Cowen started making music at a very young age. As a young child he would dance and sing to songs he heard on the radio; Anthony’s family was amazed at how accurately he was able to follow the rhythm and pitches of what he was hearing. By the time the opportunity arose to sing a solo in his elementary school’s chorus there was no stopping Anthony. In the fourth grade, with no prior formal training or vocal coaching, the audience was brought to tears from his rendition of “America the Beautiful”. After the concert, the principal of the school, along with other attendees of the performance insisted that his parents help him develop his gift.
In Jr. and Sr. high school Anthony was selected time and time again for the area all-state chorus, and as a junior in high school was the youngest male in his county to be selected for the All State chorus held in Rochester, NY. His High School years also involved musical theatre and exploring different styles to find his own sound. He was cast as lead in many productions of his high school’s musicals. Beyond his school productions Anthony yearned to pursue a career in popular music as he thought as a high tenor his vocal abilities, and his overall sound resembled that of pop groups of the time. In fact, people would constantly tell him how much his look and sound resembled that image and sound. He eventually would be part of three separate “boy bands”, two of which enjoyed minor success. It was at this time that Anthony adopted the name of A.C. as another older member of the group was also named Anthony. Family members had been calling him A.C. for years, thus it was a perfect fit
Winning talent shows, and the almost signing of a major record deal (until some of the members decided that they wanted to pursue other things) ensured that this was the professional life for him; and Pop/R&B was his forte. Upon high school graduation, A.C. enrolled at the University at Albany as a vocal music major, and also joined the all male A Cappella group ‘The Earth Tones’. This group served as great experience for A.C. as ‘The Earth Tones’ would rehearse and perform vigorously throughout each semester, with A.C. in front of numerous audiences. This also included a high school tour each winter where ‘The Earth Tones’ would receive an invitation to different high schools around and outside of the country to perform, consequently building a vast fan base. In 2006, ‘The Earth Tones’ made it to the semi-finals of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella and repeated the same feat in 2007.
As a solo artist A.C. has performed and achieved vast success in various talent shows: MTV’s Say What? Karaoke contest, and his home town’s version of American Idol, Westchester Teen Idol. In early 2008 A.C. started a myspace music page and in under 5 months acquired over 1 million plays of his songs, and over 1 million hits to his page, with a vast fan base. He has also climbed to the top of the Hit and Urban charts on Clear Channel Radio’s unsigned artist list in just a short period of time as well. He spent 3 weeks straight as the #1 most played artist of the day on both channels and is now in the top 15 all time in both categories
With influences including all the doo-wop groups of the 50’s, Brian Mcknight, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Robin Thicke, and Justin Timberlake, A.C. is looking forward to doing what he does best; wow audiences, and take the music world by storm with infinite dedication, exceptional talent, and a fresh new sound.
