About the Artist
Growing up a preachers kid, and a product of two musical families, Algernon was born to be a musician. Like most artists today, he started off singing in choirs and groups, which began to develop a natural creativity and a love for music, that is portrayed through his voice in every song he sings. In 1997, Algernon was introduced to one of the worlds greatest men, Bishop Noel Jones, which resulted in him assisting this great man in music in his local Los Angeles based church. For 7 years, Algernon was pushed into an arena of thousands of people at a time, which helped groom him into the artist he is today. This 7 year period also put Algernon on a platform in front of industry executives and musical celebrities on a regular basis, which gave him exposure to secular audiences as well, landing him front line and background appearances on stages for the Soul Train Awards, Bobby Jones Gospel, Universal Studios Japan, TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network), and the BET Celebration of Gospel with various artist. Having backed up and worked with artists such as: Mary Mary, Kurt Carr and The Kurt Carr Singers, Donnie McClurkin, Karen Clark Sheard, Kim Burrell, Juanita Bynum, Christina Aguilara, R. Kelly, Stevie Wonder, Andre Crouch, and more, in addition to all the appearances, in 2004, he received the opportunity to star in his first Los Angeles based stage play Lost And Found, which all sparked something in him to pursue a solo career in music. Just recently Algernon did his very first European Tour, where he performed live in front of completely British audiences who embraced his unique, soulful style of gospel, in addition to magazine interviews, and launching his soulful song "Fly", in European music stores in various parts of London, England, and have already made plans to return to the UK Spring/Summer 2008, "I was so humbled to have received an invitation to minister over-seas, they treated me like royalty, it was an experience he will never forget". In Late 2007 along with the City of Refuge, Algernon shared the stage with such gospel greats as: J. Moss, Rance Allen, Mississippi Mass Choir and many others. Most recently, Algernon along with some of Atlanta’s finest, appeared and sang with mainstream artist Josh Grobin on the Oprah Winfrey "Favorite Things 2007", taped in Macon, GA. Algernon is currently working on his self-titled debut album, to be released Fall 2010. Songs like his first single "You belong to Me" and "Made it through" features some of the most talented musicians and new-comer producers such as: Jeremy Thompson, Brandon Brewington, Chris Jordan, Sterling Hollowman, LB, DonLuke and the list goes on. Songs from Algernon's debut album "REAL LIFE" will offer a less traditional gospel sound, along with arrangements of traditional hymns that takes your mind back to the little church on the corner most of us grew up in, were all inspired by God, and created to encourage the soul, and uplift spirits everywhere. Algernon has a vision to reach the hearts of everyone, so when listening to his music, one will find something tailored just for them, for it has always been his dream to sing music hes written, and share it with the world.
