In the winter of 2007 the conceptual album “Rock, Pop, Roll” was born. With the intentions of being a solo project for Producer/Songwriter Jared Salte which would explore the evolution of Rock, Pop, and Soul music ranging from the 50’s all the way to our current day & age. What started as an experimental album quickly turned into the 6 piece percussive driven rock band “Junkyard Poets.” Nearly 2 years later the 68 minute album “Rock, Pop, Roll” was released. Within months of the release the album was heralded with nominations and awards including Modern Rock Album of the Year and Modern Rock Song of the Year.
Large crowds are no new challenge for Junkyard Poets. Since “Rock, Pop, Roll” Junkyard Poets have played in stadiums across Canada in front of crowds of up to 15,000 with 4 time grammy nominee Rock group the Newsboys.
Junkyard Poets was formed in 2008 by Jared Salte and childhood friend Peter Mol. With the idea of a live rock show which would involve theatrics similar to the Blue Man Group and Stomp. Junkyard Poets quickly became a 6 piece band consisting of a Drummer, Percussionist, Bassist, 2 Guitar Players and a Keyboardist.
Since then Junkyard Poets have been able to work with one of the top performance coaches in North America, Tom Jackson who works with acts such as Taylor Swift completely transformed the way that Junkyard Poets performed. Since then Junkyard Poets have been booked for Canada’s biggest festival for youth Y.C. Alberta 20,000 people along with numerous other events and venues.
Junkyard Poets concerts are filled with infectious grooves, soaring melodies and energy that takes the stage with a whole new perspective. Whether sliding down step ladders while playing a hypnotic percussive breakdown, launching through crowd dancing disco style music or presenting a heart-touching ballad, Junkyard Poet grab you by the heart, hands and mind and don’t let you go.
"I believe the English language lacks the capacity to describe the breadth of songsmith that is Jared Salte (Front man of Junkyard Poets)"
- Doug Doppler (Joe Satriani, Guitar Hero)
As one album reviewer stated, “Rock, Pop, Roll breaks rules and conventions, covering over 20 different styles in an album makes it a most entertaining and engaging experience. Ranging from the first track Prologue which kicks off the album with a Moby-esque blues groove to Stare Down the Sun - a reflective song with an underlying Barlow feel. Junkyard Poets are sure to Rock, Pop, and Roll to the top of the music industry.”
Another album reviewer stated, “Remember back in the old days when popular music was not so much about “genres” as much as it was about bands. And, back in those days, bands were about the individual players who got together in groups because they liked to make music. The endless combinations of the same band members spawned many popular acts, such as The Who and Bachman-Turner-Overdrive -- out of a lot of the same guys. Well Junkyard Poets is a throwback to (or perhaps a revolution of) the old ways of making bands. Junkyard Poets is composed of incredibly talented players whose repertoire ranges from full-bore rap core a la Rage Against The Machine all the way down to well-orchestrated piano grooves that are reminiscent of bands like The Beatles and Fleetwood Mac. Now when you read that last sentence, you might have envisioned one of those horrible bands that think they can play multiple styles and honestly can’t. Junkyard Poets is not that band. When Junkyard Poets is playing rock, they rock out. When they play swing, it sounds like swing should. They inject songs with big band, rap core, blues, and what sounds like movie soundtrack grandeur. Whatever they do, they do it right. Overall, Junkyard Poet’s “Rock, Pop, Roll” is a celebration of innovation, catchy, memorable tunes that are not bound by the newfound restrictions of genre and style.”
Another album reviewer stated, “Listening to Junkyard Poets is like being locked in the record store all night...you just stroll up and down the aisles playing music from every category.”
Junkyard Poets are rising fast and are poised to become a musical, creative and live performance force in the coming years. Catch them now to be on the ground floor of the launch pad.
