The force that Katee projects with her voice demonstrates the strong passionate lyrics that can drive through other female bands. Think Kelly Clarkson with a more raspier, gothier tone. The hard-hitting instrumentals by Kayla and the drums give the band an Iron Maiden attraction, but their final result can only be described as their own unique sound. It's shocking and inspiring to know how multitalented this trio truly is. Age is never a factor when it comes to a group that knows how to rock hard and sing with passion along with their epic lyrics.Three strong female warriors prepared to take on any challenge thrown their way. They met through a mutual friend at the Heritage Theater and the rest is history. Their late night jam sessions, and non-stop recording demonstrates their passion and motivation to create their own sound in order to satisfy their fans. Even with all the hard work they still keep a positive attitude with the help of their sense of humor, passion and laid back perspective. Dame (now Moeraes Fate) separates themselves from other girl bands because they aren't easily influenced by stereotypes. In our exclusive interview with the band, we learn that they are thankful to their close-knit families for their influence toward their growing careers as musicians. The girls are normal high school students who have exams but still find the time to balance both. It's kinda overwhelming sometimes but you always have something to do" Spoken like true and humble rock stars. It's not like what TV channel am I going to watch today? You know what you're going to do, so that's cool." Their main goal artistically is to create music that can relate to others without having to compromise their talents to get far in the industry. Dame's (now Moeraes Fate) music is founded on hard rock alternative; their main inspirations are Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, and Tool. They also appreciate different genres of music such as Ska and punk. Being a Canadian girl group their Canadian favorites are Dali Circus, Keepin'6 and Alexisionfire to name a few. When going to Dame's (now Moeraes Fate) shows their fans offer a non-judgmental environment complete with piercings and non-violent moshing: a unique crowd that have been mesmerized by Dame's (now Moeraes Fate) energy. The girls confidence toward the indie rocks scene create their wide spread fan base in Canada. Names Brampton's Best Rock Group in 2006, there is no doubt that Dame (now Moeraes Fate) will keep their title with the help of their loyal fans. Dame (now Moeraes Fate)has already done so much in the span of a year and a half to make their music known. Dame's (now Moeraes Fate) newest addition is their manager/producer is lead singer of jacksoul, Haydain Neale (winner of Best R&B recording in the 2007 Junos) and also the president of the Songwriters Association of Canada. In the near future when Dame (now Moeraes Fate) releases their new single, the public will be captured by the passion behind their sound and soulfulness of their lead singer. Even a simple ballad highlights Katee's powerful vocals that evoke maturity and skill. Each member has their own unique talent which will definitely contribute to their success. Dame (now Moeraes Fate) will have to keep showing their strengths musically and singing positively tin order to rise to the top in the music industry. I've been holding on to these for the last week or two, waiting for them to announce their new name officially. The theme was Steampunk, which I always have trouble explaining so click on the red link if you are curious about what it is. :) I brought in two MUAs, Julienne Spencer and Christina R who did a fantastic job on the makeup and hair! And Starkers! Corsetry was very kind to lend us these beautiful corsets and skirts. Each of the women has their own distinct personality so we tried to reflect that in the wardrobe. Above are Katee (vocals/bass) and Kayla with the goggles (drums). For better quality versions of these images, click on the links. The photo quality on this blog is rubbish! New band member Ali (guitar), is also new to photo shoots but she's really easy going and a great listener so she photographed like a pro. The name Moeraes Fate is a play on words. The Moerae (otherwise known as The Fates) were personifications of destiny in Greek mythology. One spins the thread of life, one measures that life and one cuts the thread, i.e. Birth, Life and Death. So when they let me in on the name change they asked if it was possible to work it into the shoot. I came up with some wool and a huge pair of gardening shears (thanks to my Mom) which I think worked well! And I think it's a cool name for a band of three women. Click HERE for better image quality. However, Hanson was "kids stuff" compared to the incredible power, overall sound and musicianship of the 3-piece all female act from Canada known as MOERAES FATE formerly known as DAME. Recording material on their new debut when they were 14, 15 and 16 years old, these intense women of rock get down and take care of business without shelling out cute, commercial fluff for the tiny boppers! I tell you, these girls ROCK and their talent and musical style is far beyond their young years! Although totally professional in every way, to MOERAES FATE formerly known as DAME, it's not about the business of music – it's about the music itself and making sure they give their fans something that's in their face, hard heavy and yet melodic; most of all…, something to remember! Whether you hear their recorded works or see them live, MOERAES FATE formerly known as DAME has no problem delivering! With this band, there is no such thing as covering up inadequacies with layers of effects… These girls are musicians true to form with abilities equal to or above that of seasoned musicians twice their age. I'm impressed with, both, their writing ability and their performance of the material they write. These girls work hard, not only with their music, but getting the band's name out and making sure their material is heard! I can't tell you the number of good bands that fall by the wayside simply because they are too lazy to work at getting their name out there. "We don't need to do flyers or update our page… Our music speaks for itself" is the cry of looser that I've heard time and time again. However, MOERAES FATE formerly known as DAME, on the other hand, get's out there and makes their presence known! Dedication, determination and commitment equal SUCCESS! Of course, having colossal talent to top it off sure helps! As a strong supporter of women in music, when I accidently came across their MySpace icon on another band's Friend List on MySpace, I simply had to check them out. As anyone who uses MySpace knows, when you arrive on a band's page (when MySpace is working right) the music player starts and begins playing one of the band's songs. When I arrived on MOERAES FATE formerly known as DAME's page this was the case. Just as I started reading a little bit on the band the song "Cyclops" started playing and I just had to spot reading and listen. It was simply intense! Great musicianship, performance, writing, and KILLER vocals! I simply thought WOW! The sound f success! When the song finished I clicked over to another song and again began reading about the band. As "Hey Angel" started playing again I was forced to sit back in amazement and just listen…. It wasn't until after I hear 3 of the band's songs that I actually got to read about them. What I learned just blew me away even further! When those songs were recorded the three (that's right, 3) members of the band were 14, 15 and 16 years old! On Drums was the youngest of the three girls in the band, Kayla at age 14 with some incredibly powerful beatin' on the drums for someone her age and size. Katee plays bass and belts out some incredibly soulful and bluesy rock vocals that will astonish you at age 15. Instantly I was in love with this band because of the totally awesome music they wrote and performed with such passion. That coupled with the fact that I was so impressed they were pulling it off at such a young age! I wasn't impressed because they were girls because I know women are capable of being intense musicians and there are many out there who are. However, like their Canadian counterpart "RUSH," finding three totally intense musicians that fit and work so well together is nearly unheard of! I was pleased that 3 women of such caliper had come together to form a band that delivers such quality music to their fans. It's because these three women of such talent found each other and put together such a band that I've chosen them as Best All Female Act. It's because of MOERAES FATE formerly known as DAME's writing and performance Ability and the quality of the material they perform along with the passion behind it that I chose them as Best Rock Act. Last but not least, it was the combination of the two reasons mentioned above for choosing them as Best Female Act and Best Rock Act coupled with the energy behind the band, their dedication commitment and desire that I chose MOERAES FATE formerly known as DAME as Most Likely To Succeed. If you live in the Ontario area of Canada and have a passion for awesome music, I urge you to go see MOERAES FATE formerly known as DAME! Look on their MySpace page for upcoming dates near you. If you are a booking agent, promoter or venue owner/manager, what are you waiting for! Book them! I know the girls are waiting for the opportunity to expand their horizons and are eagerly working on getting shows further and further away from home. BOOK THEM! Be the talent agent or venue that can claim to have broken the band to the mass public or you'll be kicking yourself in the ass for a long time to come for not doing so! As of this writing, each of the band members are about a year older and wiser than they were at the time of writing some of the most incredible material I've heard in some time… I now wonder what's to come with this wisdom and experience!!

The Niagara Falls Review : Moeraes Fate (formerly known as Dame wins) Members of the band Moeraes Fate (formerly known as DAME) won the first YouDiscover contest for Canadian musicians in Niagara Falls Friday night. Brampton band edges out local acts to win summer concert series DAME earns title over inLimbo and Broken Lyre in inaugrual music contest When teen girl-band Moeraes Fate (DAME) entered the youDiscover contest, it was all about getting a chance to perform in Niagara Falls. Now the three 17-year-olds from Brampton have earned the right to take the stage here New Year’s Eve, giving them a TV audience of about one million viewers. “This was an opportunity to play in Niagara Falls. That was more or less… oh my god, man, I want to play this place,” bassist and singer Katee Lee said, recalling why her band entered the Niagara Parks Commission’s inaugural ‘battle of the bands’ competition. They edged out 27 other bands in a contest to be the opening act at the New Year’s Eve show. “We weren’t expecting it so it’s a huge surprise. Plus, it’s a like bonus ‘cause we had a blast, right,” Lee said in a phone interview Saturday, the day after the win. The all-girl band describes its sound as progressive rock and counts Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin and System of a Down as its influences, according to GarageBand.com, a website that profiles amateur and up-and-coming musicians. “Dame is a bone-crushing rock trio with big choruses, hard- hitting guitar riffs and power-house vocals. Recommended if you like Audioslave with chunks of Iron Maiden,” the band’s website says. Five bands, including two from Niagara Falls – inLimbo and the Broken Lyre – performed Friday at Oakes Garden Theatre in the contest final. When the series began seven weeks ago, 28 bands entered. Through 14 shows, judges narrowed the field to the final five that squared off Friday night at Oakes Garden Theatre. “Any one of those bands could be signed to a deal in the next year to two years. They’re of that calibre,” said Joel Noden, a Niagara Parks Commission manager who was one of the judges. “What kind of crossed over for Moeraes Fate is they’re ready.” Each of the judges looked for something different and the winners had something that appealled to each of them. Noden, for example, was watching for the band’s stage presence while Aubrey Winfield, president of Orange Lounge Recordings was focused on their songwriting skills. “They’ve got stage presence like you wouldn’t believe… Good young girls that’ll hopefully do really well,” Noden said. Putting Moeraes Fateon stage New Year’s Eve will expose them to a TV audience of about one million viewers. Noden said that show three years ago was the launch pad for Justin Hines’ career. “We said, ‘Gee, maybe we can do this for another band,’” Noden said. Niagara Falls band inLimbo made an impression on the judges, as well, but they were deemed not quite as ready as Moeraes Fate, Noden said. “All the judges were saying, ‘These guys are fantastic. They just need a little more development.” Each of the five finalists performed a four-song set for a panel of judges which included Hines, now a rising star in Canadian pop music and two-time performer at the New Year’s Eve show in Niagara Falls. Moeraes Fate performed original material, “Chained to My Life,” “Customers of Crime,” “Making of the New Me,” and “Intervention.” All three band members contribute to the writing of original songs they perform, Lee said. Lee called Friday “the biggest show of our life,” but New Year’s Eve will blow that away. Until now the band’s biggest audience has been on live webcasts from websites that showcase new bands. “We play local shows and we do it for fun. Some people come up to us and offer us deals and stuff,” Lee said. The band also receives a recording contract from Orange Lounge Recordings, and a band “makeover.” The prize package is worth $35,000, parks commission officials said. The contest, intended to find the best, undiscovered musical talent across Canada, was sponsored by the parks commission, Orange Lounge Recordings, Hard Rock Cafe, and other local tourism operators. With its first year under its belt, the parks commission is looking at how to make the contest an annual event, Noden said. When the parks commission came up with the idea, they pitched it to Ministry of Tourism officials to get some funding. June 11, 2009 By Scott Bremner MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame guitarist Alicia Stead, a new addition to the band, was twelve when she got into music and started to play really heavily. The track was ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ off of Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’ album. You think it might be odd hearing that such a recent album had an early onset infulence, but the girls of MOERAES FATE formerly known as DAME are barely breaching their mid-teens. Stead says she also “like[s] a lot of Stevie Ray Vaughan and a lot of blues stuff and some classic rock.” She is also a fan of Queen and Led Zeppelin of course. Her band mate drummer Kayla Faye mentions how the group members parents had a huge impact in that, “because growing up that’s all we listened to.” Faye recalls childhood memories, “I remember going on long road trips and just listening to like the sound of Simon and Garfunkel.” The girls’ friend, lead singer and bassist, Katee Lee, explained that she likes anything Pink Floyd, and is a fan of their ‘Animals’ record. Lee became interested in music thanks to her father figure Dennis Fox, (whom the group penned the song ‘Intervention’ about) and was taught the bass by her brother Nick, (the guitarist of the rock band Dali Circus). The members of MOERAES FATE formerly known as DAME are still growing up. dame2 199x300 Keeping up with MOERAES FATE formerly known as DAME: Young Advocates for a Cause. Last year at the 4th Toronto Independent Music Awards, the band took home awards for Best Alternative Rock Band and Best Song (tying for “Intervention”, which was the title track off the group’s EP and ‘Cyclops’). They worked on the tracks with Haydain Neale of Jacksoul. Lee and Faye agree that working with him “was a blast” and “he definitely was an incredible teacher and exceptional role model,” informed Lee. When listening to such tracks as ‘Bad Weather Friend’ or ‘Intervention’ the technique of imagery is noticeable. The style wasn’t there from day one. “We did try around,” explained Lee adding, “that’s what Haydain did, he trained us.” He helped us find our direction”. The trio’s musical education came in handy on May 3, when more than 200 people gathered for a benefit held at The Revival Bar to support continuing the education of students in Tanzania. Aside from MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame, the event in question for the Brighten Our Future campaign featured the band “Pop Cherry”, musicians, “Andrew Cole” as well as “Doug Horner” and Matt Easter’s U2 tribute band Us20 according to Emily Mallett, the International Director, for the cause. She spoke about whom else was on hand that evening. Tamsir Seck, followed by advocate for South African orphans, singer & Juno nominated songwriter Glenn Marais. Four years ago Mallett went to Tanzania and met Thadeus Mutarubukwa who at the time was a staffer for World Vision. Mutarubukwa oversees the Bukoba based Gerladina Orphanage and Education Centre that he began. The night of the concert $5,000.00 was brought in and the organization is still accepting funds according to her. The money will be doing a lot of good. “Last year, through external fundraising, we were able to register over 100 children in school and provide these associated materials; however, this year, the money for the associated materials and also for those continuing to secondary school is running out - so I decided to organize a big fundraiser, to keep these children in school,” explained Mallett who was introduced to the group by “a mutual good friend.” She thinks highly of the group and refers to “Lee’s voice (as) simply remarkable - she has amazing strength and passion when she sings - and her band are the perfect compliment to that power. Katee, Kayla and Alicia are three really talented people”. Mallet, described the first MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame gig she ever went too saying,” I was left speechless…literally!” The band may have changed a member but Faye, considers that as the start of a“ new beginning” with Lee agreeing. Earlier in the interview the drummer for MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame discussed last year’s events. “We won the awards and then we lost our original guitarist but luckily we found Ali. We strongly believe everything happens for a reason. And things are moving along pretty smoothly now and things are working out great.” After the loss of MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame’s guitarist, Faye and Lee looked for the perfect replacement over a period of “three or four months,” Lee explained as she described that time as “hectic” and later said that she and Faye “went through a hard time.”However, Faye tells how they “kept it together just kind of writing some ideas”. The majority of the time was spent searching out the new member. “Mostly we were looking for guitarists who fit the part and just auditioning them”. So how did Stead join the group? The remaining members of MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame put together an advertisement, which she answered. informed Faye. Lee and she took a trip up to Stead’s home where they visited with her according to Faye. During this time the girls, “jammed out and it fit so perfectly together,” she said.Upon meeting they composed an acoustic piece, according to Stead who pointed out that, “We wrote right away.” She believes during “the second or third practice we wrote a song called ‘Customers of Crime,’ explained the guitarist. According to Lee the group had “almost” finished composing the song after that one practice”. While Stead didn’t seem to have any trouble fitting in, a few of the aspects of life as a band were new.“I had never been really in an original band before,” she explained though according to her she had previously been in band that played covers. Stead also had not penned material. “It was kind of different to jump into a band that’s already starting to go somewhere and to start just like writing songs because I’ve never written before”, she admits. MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame has recently won The Search For The Next Cutting Edge Band on April 24 of this year and will be performing on the main stage of the Cutting Edge Music Festival at Bingemans Fun Park, in Kitchener early in August. Swing on by www. cemf.com for additional details and announcements. “Winning the whole thing was obviously pretty cool,” says Stead about the experience noting “There were a lot of great bands there so it was definitely a real tough competition, but it was fun too. “However it could be said that while MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame was victorious a few weeks ago the most recent champions are the children who will be supported by the dollars brought in by the Brighten Our Future event and the paying concertgoers. Mallett referred to the group’s set as “definitely a crowd pleaser”, before concluding that “The reaction of the crowd to MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame’s performance was very reminiscent of when I first saw them - mouths wide open in awe and a rapturous applause”. During the evening the group not only played their own music, according to Mallett but also what she said was a “brilliant cover” of Hendrix’s ‘Little Wing’. MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame seems willing to help benefits take flight. They have done a great deal of charity events, including several for breast cancer and consider it important to further causes.“We have people coming out from all over Ontario coming to support us, I mean the least we can do is play a benefit show and you know not get any profit from it but at least we see smiles on peoples’ faces because it was a great show, great turnout and we raised lots of money for whatever cause we were playing for and it just really brightens your day knowing that you did something good for other people,” remarked Faye after Lee said, “the event’s going to be a great way to raise money for people who deserve it. Mallett was also pleased with the band’s views regarding giving back to the community and gave her thoughts on labeling youth. “These stereotypes simply aren’t true,” she explained when discussing Faye and Lee comments regarding assisting the organization. “Both the girls and their fans have been incredibly supportive of this initiative.” She later said, “I am further inspired by MOERAES FATE formerly known as MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame’s enthusiasm and compassion for this cause.” One of the ways MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame has gotten the word out according to Mallett is by using “MySpace and Facebook pages”. When asked about the importance of viral marketing to get musical material out to listeners’ when bands are not really that well-known and just coming up, Stead said, “The promotion (of) the internet is so huge” with Faye agreeing with her and pointing out that ‘”specially with things like Facebook, you can keep people up-to-date with literally a post of everything about your music.” One of their fans happens to be George Stroumboulopoulos both of The Hour and The Strombo Show. MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame has been a guest on his radio show and he has mentioned the band and raved about Lee’s singing ability on television. In January of last year the band was featured in a segment for ET Canada and two years ago another publication compared them to Rush, which Faye calls “a big name to look up to”, referring to the popular Canadian band. “We are a three piece but Rush, man, that’s a big friggin’…world’s best drummer (Neil Peart) in a lot of peoples’ opinions.” Three years ago MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame won the Brampton’s Best Band award when Lee and Faye were in their early teens and last year they won the Brampton’s Citizens Arts Acclaim Award. Their song, ‘Intervention’ was featured in a trailer for the Apoxalipstix comic book created by Ray Fawkes. The group’s management discovered the possible opportunity after reading the paper, according to Lee. “She found him and sent him an email about us. They contacted us immediately to play at the launch party”. When thinking about the people in their lives that have helped them succeed Stead and Lee mentioned the assistance of the group’s parental factor. “Couldn’t have been done without them,” says Lee adding “who would take us to the shows? Who orders t-shirts?” Stead agreed, adding “and the support from all friends and family”. Earlier during the conversation Faye said, “We definitely need everybody else’s support not only the music,” later on brought up “the fans.” Lee believes MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame “are very blessed to have an ever growing support team. People see our show or hear our music and almost always contact us to see if they can volunteer to help us in any way. They really dig the music (and) want us to succeed. Our fans are amazing.” Later, both girls thanked them ”for the support and wait for more (music)”, they said. So how do the ladies envision the next year? Both Faye and Lee have thoughts on this matter with both agreeing that an album is a goal of theirs. “Writing an album and recording it,” says Faye while Lee believes that having “even a new EP right now you know” she mentioned, “ would be really cool to go tour for like three weeks in summer-just go with the band on the road, but at the same time we need to get focused on getting new material with Alicia and getting back (to) top notch”. The band is aware that they need to get things together before they can go out especially this early in their career because if something’s not right, “you got to fix it right away” said Faye while Lee agreed. They also noticed the careers of musicians such as Led Zeppelin front man “Robert Plant,” (whom all three would like to meet); Faye and Lee acknowledged that the group influenced them into getting into music. Plant, age 60, won the Grammy along with Alison Krauss for their record ‘Raising Sand’. The joint project also won additional awards at the 51st annual ceremony. “Doesn’t matter man,” says Lee when asked about Plant’s impressive win despite his age. “Well, (The Rolling) Stones are like that right too. They’re still like going crazy, that guy’s (Mick Jagger) going to die on stage. That’s awesome. I want to die on stage,” she says. “That’s how I want to be- just like, playing until my death bed,” says Faye with Lee agreeing and saying, “That’d be so awesome.” Later in the interview, Faye summed up the feelings MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame has about what they do when she said, “I’m going to play music until I possibly can’t anymore”. So for fans that may be worried about the music style changing you need not worry too much. “We have a good mixture of influences coming together to bring us a fresh new sound”, Stead pointed out. Later she asked Lee her opinion, “The music’s going to be a bit different right?” with the lead singer commenting, “but not too different, just a little bit with a cherry on top”.

It will take a few minutes of your time, but I think it will be an enjoyable experience. It involves listening to a great new band called MOERAES FATE (Dame). Because of my song chords website, I've been involved in pretty much all of the social media sites for several years now. Needless to say, most of my Myspace and Facebook 'friends' are bands and artists - 'birds of a feather' and all that. Which is great, because I get to listen to new bands and keep my finger on the pulse of new music. Back in November 2007 I created a blog post here extolling the virtues of MOERAES FATE (Dame) - a band from the Toronto area, who are still the best new band I've heard on any of the music community websites I subscribe to. MOERAES FATE (Dame) are a trio of young ladies who belt out some of the best rock sounds I've heard in years. Which is astonishing when you realise that none of them are over 18. They have won numerous competitions for bands in the Toronto, Canada area, and are my tip to join artists like Colbie Caillat and The Fleet Foxes ( both of whom I had previously supported and promoted ) in the transition from MySpace to the recording studio and international recognition. I had attended a benefit concert for breast cancer research at the Hard Rock Café in downtown Toronto held the same night. Sometime between my watching a phenomenal and precociously gifted young band called MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame perform on the stage and seeing local favourite Basia Lyjak do her set, Ms.Saveda, aged 23, was shot to death, a victim of criminal violence simply because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. She had been attending a show across town. I was completley oblivious to the tragedy. Not merely for the duration of the show but for the morning and afternoon which followed. Upon hearing of the sad event I debated whether I even wanted to continue with writing this review. It gave me considerable pause. But then I remembered why the show I had attended was held. Ms.Saveda was a young woman taken before her time. Victims of breast cancer are also almost exclusively women taken before their time. This was brought home to me during the show when some members of the bands onstage spoke personally about a female relation they had lost to the disease. MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame - three teenage girls all under the age of 18 performing with a skill that many rock musicians twice their age cannot equal opened the show. Quickly one learns upon seeing this power trio to look past the gimmick of their collective age (48) and find similarities with the very popular and well-established acts they open for. At times one can detect similarities to acts like Four Non-Blondes and Pearl Jam. The band itself draws considerably from legends Pink Floyd. Basia Lyjak - Ms. Lyjak chose to debut some new material at the show that she has co-written with collaborator Kyle Riabko. The immediate impression given was that her guitarist Ron Bechard was playing fewer power chords and emphasizing more melody in complimenting Ms. Lyjak's voice in the as yet unreleased singles. Scarlet Sins - If you have seen Scarlet Sins a few times you aren't surprised at how slick they are in performance or how well their live playing stands up to the recordings of the same music. The percussion of drummer Elie Bertrand can sound more powerful live. But what you might well be surprised by is seeing centrestage so ably commanded by Sylvya NuVynska, the Sins vocalist who is six feet two inches of Slavic sensuality blended with sophomoric mischief. As I said, during the show I was oblivious to the outside world. Any really great concert can give you that feeling. It is better than any drug and far less destructive. It has been a difficult year on the local rock scene in Toronto. A fire ripped through the part of Queen Street West where some of the best rock clubs are early in the year. A not insignificant member of the band Oasis recently fell victim to a random wacko who football tackled him during his performance on a Toronto stage for no apparent reason. Some clubs have been raided and others have had their liquor licenses suspended. But that’s rock n roll and that's life. If at some point you can find something to make you forget about societies ills you are lucky. Local bands like MOERAES FATE formerly known as Dame, Basia Lyjak and Dame offer a delightful interlude.

FAZER MAGAZINE - 2008 NXNE COVERAGE Dame (Moeraes Fate) - NXNE June 14th Funhaus Next up, was Brampton's very own Dame (Moeraes Fate), a young three piece female band you'll be hearing a lot more about in the coming year. Unsigned at the moment (but, I'm quite they'll be snapped up by a label in no time), Dame (Moeraes Fate) deliver a hard-driving original set of well composed tunes, that seem to fall somewhere between Heart (the good Heart, before the eighties power ballads) and Metallica (the girls seem to like the heavy). Boasting a drummer at 15 years old , a guitarist at 17 and a bassist/vocalist at 16 (, what the band lack in years is easily compensated for in quality music and raw talent. With original material like 'Cyclops' and 'Intervention', I'm already intrigued at what a full length CD from these girls is going to sound like. My highlight of the set was Katee dropping the intro harmonizing of 'The Pot' by Tool, before bursting into one of their own tracks. Subtly done, but really well done in my books. Dropping such a nugget at such a young age only cements in my mind that these girls have got their eye on the prize. Swing by their MySpace and give their material a listen. Even better, go and see them live, and be prepared to rock. Mike Baxx

Another Canadian band is well on the road to becoming one of my very favorites! Like their neighbor and predecessor (and my original favorite act), RUSH, Dame (now Moeraes Fate) is another kick ass 3-piece band with power, hooks, grace, obvious talent and incredible drive. This time however, the band proving that The Great White North still rocks is an all female band whose members are just barely in High School! Starting right out with smarts, talent and the ability to write great songs Dame (now Moeraes Fate) also has an added ingredient for success – their looks! Yup, beauty, brains and talent are an awesome combination that can take a band far in today's music scene. Don't let the looks come into play tho – just listen to the band and you'll even forget they are girls! This band can seriously lay down a groove and kick out some serious sound with ease. If there is a young band out there today that can thrust women into the spotlight in the rock scene it will be Dame (now Moeraes Fate) ! The songs I heard from this incredible young band were found on their MySpace page at www.myspace.com/dameband. It was pretty hard picking a favorite but, after some listening and totally enjoying them all, the one that I tended to lean toward was a powerful track called "Hey Angel". I felt this song showed the bands ability to 1) write great material, 2) easily slip into progressive changes and 3) proved these girls have what it takes to go far! I mean, all their songs were great, but "Hey Angel" is really tight and shows a powerful band that is capable of a softer, very melodic side within the same song without making it loose its overall power and captivation. AWESOME WORK! I'm impressed! A very close second came with a track called "Amnesia". This isn't my second favorite because of its power or incredible chops and so forth, they have other songs for that. This one is a more simplistic song that gets to the point. It shows diversity in this very young band. Yes, this song still has power and grit, but overall, it is a more simplistic song that's easy to enjoy. Third is an awesome song that shows diversity within the song itself. I'm talking about the track called "Cyclops". Starting off very melodic and soulful with a solid drum part and great vocals, it builds into a more powerful song with great guitar and bass work along with continuous good work on drums. Switching back and forth from slower, more melodic and soulful to insta-power and grit this song has great changes and awesome chops. A song more likely to be found written by an older and far more experienced band – but Dame (now Moeraes Fate) wrote it and wrote it well! Another awesome song that can be heard on their MySpace page is a track called "Overcome". This is yet another splendidly written song with great guitar work and the trademark powerhouse vocals. Smoothly implemented changes and transitions from verse to chorus make this another remarkably intense song! I don't know how these girls do this and I can't wait to get their entire CD. If I love the first 4 songs so much that I really have a hard time picking a favorite, can it be possible that the remaining songs on their debut will be as awesome? Granted, there are only 4 tracks on their MySpace page so they have some material somewhere that I don't like as much. However, based on what I'm hearing from Dame (now Moeraes Fate) right now, I don't actually know if they can write and perform an actual "bad" song! I think these girls kick ass! If they keep going the way they are and have open minds, they will be able to continue to grow and develop their skills while, at the same time, learning from others. What they learn from others can be incorporated into what they do, but I feel Dame (now Moeraes Fate) is smarter than that – they will take what they learn and push it to the limit to develop it to its fullest potential and call it their own! That, my friends, is the evolution of a successful band! Yup, they are a girl band so they will get good and bad press. People who know nothing about music and would never have the talent or guts to get up and play in front of people will rip them apart for tiny little things simply because they are a girl band competing in a male dominated field. However, if Dame (now Moeraes Fate) can feed off and grow with the good press and their crowd response and take the bad with a grain of salt, I think these girls will be kickin' ass and takin' names for some time to come! Personally, I feel Dame (now Moeraes Fate) will be a driving force in the music scene in the not to distant future. So, BUY their material now before they get signed and have a collector's item! OK, I told you they were a young band and gave you a bit of an idea of how young in a couple statements I made early on in this article. However, I didn't want to divulge too much until you read what I had to say about the band and their music. But I think you'd be surprised how young they really are. Now, think about it; if this 3-piece band can be writing and pulling off awesome material now at this age, I can just envision where they will be after a few short years of experience and technique building! Dame (now Moeraes Fate) is surely a band to enjoy now and keep watching, as they will unquestionably take off! In fact, in just over a year and a half, Dame (now Moeraes Fate) has already become an MTV Canada featured band and chosen as Brampton's Best Rock band in the summer of 2006! In their own words, this is what the girls of Dame (now Moeraes Fate) have to say…. We like a lot of classic rock like Zepplin and Ozzy and Guns & Roses... So it's pretty natural that every time we write a new song, it has to hit hard. We're always trying to write better and bigger songs, but one thing we figured out early was that we had something to say, and as long as we were tighter and heavier than the next band, people would listen." - Katee, bass and vocals There is nothing like making music. This is what we love to do. After school I practice. When I'm done practicing I call up Katee and we jam, working out the tunes. When the weekend comes we either gig or head into the studio to record a new track. I don't think it matters that we're young. The girls of DAME (now Moeraes Fate) aren't just pretending to be rock stars, they are actually becoming rock stars! DAME (now Moeraes Fate) is a hard driving all girl band hitting the scene and paying their dues as the newest hardest working group in rock and roll. Bassist and Vocalist is (14), Guitarist is (15) and the powerhouse on the Drums is (13). Although each one is stunningly beautiful, don't let their looks fool you, these girls have talent that's far beyond their few years. Their sound is developed from a strict diet of classic rock with sprinklings of metal and pop. Kayla boasts "We would like to think our sound will shake up the music scene that is predominately male." In regards to their name, "We needed a name that represented strength and dignity of the modern females of the world. Tables are turning and the world is taking notice." They formed late last year. Their first show was months ago at The Hype on Queen Street in Brampton and they regularly play all ages shows there. Since then, the girls have been performing at a myriad of venues including The Reverb and Kathedral in Toronto and The Hardball in Milton. This past February, DAME (now Moeraes Fate) won Best Overall Junior Performers at The Brampton Performing Arts Showcase held at Lester B Pearson Theater. Far from their first award, Katee won best Junior Vocal and Most Promising Performer in the same contest. Katee reflects on their songwriting: "We are lucky when writing our music. Usually a riff that keeps us up at night will blossom into a killer tune in one day. Our lyrics are inspired not only by our own experiences but we tend to also write songs based on the life experiences of others. "Hey Angel", our most requested song right now is us questioning an angel about the horrible things going on in the world today. Beginning September 2006 they will all be attending Central Peel Secondary in Brampton. On May 30th, DAME (now Moeraes Fate) played at an outdoor show at Central Peel to give the students a sneak preview of what is to come. DAME (now Moeraes Fate) was recently named Brampton's Favorite Band on MySpace.com/bramptonshows. The honour comes along with a Waterpoint Production Show to be announced this summer. Jax, DAME's (now Moeraes Fate) Manager, stresses that their age and gender is a strong factor that sets them apart from other bands around today. "That is part of the feedback we are getting. When people find out how young they are and compare it to our sound they don't believe it. The girls have been lucky to combine all our separate influences and merge them into the DAME (now Moeraes Fate) sound brilliantly." DAME (now Moeraes Fate) is influenced by a stimulating combination of Mozart to AC/DC to Marilyn Manson to Nine Inch Nails to Pink Floyd to Circa Survive. The girls think sometimes too much is made of their age. They tell us that all the girls are very confident and secure in who they are. "The 3 of us are very different personalities and compliment each other beautifully. We are very much like sisters and find that communication within the band is the main key". Local fan Francis King agrees "Hey when you're good, you're good. It doesn't matter if you're 14 or 40. Their more famous peers are taking notice too. Kelly Osbourne, who has never been one to hold back an opinion heard DAME's (now Moeraes Fate) music and said "Wow - you gals kicks some major butt. [DAME] is going far". But it's not only famous offspring that are impressed. Local bands are lining up to play with them and fans are appreciating the fresh sound. A fan identified as "not-Shannon" said about DAME, (now Moeraes Fate) "You always hear teenage girls going, 'yuh i play guitar', but no one knows how to string chords together. DAME (now Moeraes Fate) actually manages to pull something together. Nice going and good luck! To stay true, grounded and focused DAME's (now Moeraes Fate) families provide great support and they keep them surrounded with professional musicians who are readily available for positive advice and constructive criticism. The girls say that kind of support makes a difference and shows in their skill and attitudes. We remind ourselves regularly", says Katee, "To stick with our dreams, expect disappointment and negative feedback. You can't please everyone but the main thing is to please yourself. I wish someone had told me that when I was 14 and dreaming of greatness!
