Hot Picks: Things to do around the valley... by The Desert Sun LOCAL BANDS BRING THEIR ‘A' GAME: Rock shows at the Red Barn aren't known for their luxury and comfort. The Barn's architecture was not designed for large crowds, housing bathrooms that weren't designed with privacy in mind and an area that would be perfect to watch performances from if it wasn't walled off.
A little angsty, a little grungy... Los Angeles' Revent will only feel more so when they experience Palm Desert in late August. Perhaps adversity will help them bring their “A” game to the show.

Big Takeover Review of Revent by Big Takeover Magazine This L.A. trio's debut straddles the line between big-sounding, heavy alterna-rock/old style grunge, modern underground metal, prog rock, and bombastic classic rock. Given that, it's a surprise that the vocals and some of the textural elements are so languorous in contrast. Breaking the mold, Ian Madden's singing is more out of the Coldplay/U2/Muse yearning school, mixed with classic '70's hard rock singers like Ian Anderson, holding his notes many extra breaths. And there are pregnant passages of more methodical musings betwixt the more standard smacking, until the massive drums of Josh Rosenblatt regain the sway. But by mixing up the standard formula, will Revent be shut out of the narrow dictates of so many constituencies? Or interest them all?
REVENT RELEASES SELF-TITLE DEBUT ALBUM by Revent LOS ANGELES, Calif. – March 12, 2008 – REVENT’s highly anticipated freshman release hits the streets April 1st, 2008. The album features Stare at the Sun – an explosive and sincere opus with echoes of The Mars Volta and Muse. The self-produced and self-titled album is built on dynamic progressions, aggressive rhythms, powerful guitars and earnest, penetrating vocals.
REVENT is raw and instinctual. Its songs are written transparency -- keenly aware of the seemingly insurmountable task of writing popular music with integrity and humility. The Los Angeles-based trio features Seattle transplants Ian Madden (vocals and guitar) and Josh Rosenblatt (drum), and San Antonio native Kevin Cliver (bass). REVENT draws inspiration from bands such as NIN, A Perfect Circle, Muse, QOTSA, Pantera and Jeff Buckley.
