Safi Connection is Mishel Bitton(31) Mishel first started to make music back in '97, where he released an album under the project “Sonichaos” . The Sonichaos album presented a very melodic approach that fitted the times back than. This album was released through Planet Music, a sub-label of B.N.E, a major player in the international Trance scene.
Few months after the release of “Sonichaos” Mishel teamed with Avi peled, together they came up with the "Todra” project, which had a much more matured musical approach. This project was instantly signed for the Krembo Records label and was released in '98 with great responds worldwide. From that moment on Mishel started spining music around the world and from exploring the international markets and trends Mishel felt that he must bring his ideas into life but with a whole new perspective and so he changed his musical direction and progressed to what everyone knows today as “Safi Connection”.
Mishel started to work on the “Safi Connection” project in 2001, along with Tamir Ozana(a.k.a – Atomic Pulse), after polishing their first few tracks they signed a deal for an album to DJ Dede's own label “Spectrum Music” and in early 2002 the debut “Safi Connection” album, “Prince Of Paranoia” came to life. At the very same studio , was working Avi Shmailov , a.k.a – ASTRIX .
This album was distributed world wide through MDMA(r.i.p) and it has created a mega buzz for “Safi Connection”'s music and shows, reviews and interviews came out in all the respected media, magazines, internet, dj's charts and more.
2002 was a busy year for Mishel, it is the breakthrough year for him actually, since the release of the “Safi Connection” debut album Mishel and Tamir decided to go each on his own way, And so Mishel kept to work on the “Safi Connection” project while Tamir continued his career as Atomic Pulse. SAFI CONNECTION 2nd studio Album was Released on Arcadia Music Japan & Distributed worldwide by no else than TOSHIBA – EMI , Japan .
Mishel released his music through many respected labels such as: Arcadia music – Jp ,BNE – Israel ,3DVision – Fr ,Spirit Zone Recordings – Germany ,T.I.P World – UK ,Transient – UK ,AP records – Germany , Synergetic records – Austria ,Candy Flip – Greece ,Flow records – Purtugal ,Fragile planet – UK ,Utopia – Israel , Digital psionic – Australia ,Agitato – Israel ,Shiva Space Technology – Germany ,Spiral Trax – Sweden ,Spectrum Music – Israel ,MDMA Music – Israel ,Phonokol – Israel , Zodiac – Japan , Moon Spirits – France
Apart from “Safi Connection” Mishel also collaborates with Micha Yossef(a.k.a – Echotek) as half of the dou “Neo Logic” and on another joined project named “Central Nerve”, both projects are getting strong interest throughout the globe so watch out for more news on these projects soon.more colabrations as Safi with Space Tribe,Melicia,Sally Doolaly,Psykovsky,X-wave.At the moment safi is working on a psy guitar project that would be as a live act Of 2 pepole , Safi feat. Liquid phase (safi & guitar player). Also known as B-Tone , a more progressive project . an album was realesed on Synergetic records on june 2004 , called “B-Tone – Mantra acts”.
In 2004 Mishel launched he's own Label – SPLIFF MUSIC. Spliff music gained a very warm feedbacks globally . and released no less than 23 cds till today .
All of Mishel's projects (Safi Connection, Neo Logic, B-Tone , Safi feat. Liquid phase , Central Nerve) are known for having a top quality production with stuning fresh ideas, it's the new style, its progressive full on trance, not the usual Israeli full on, twisted, funky and most important of all – it rocks the dancefloors everywhere around the world.

PSYLICIOUS RADIO SHOW INTERVIEW WITH SAFI CONNECTI by PSYLICIOUS
01: Mishel, welcome to the Psylicious Radio show's 1st birthday show! How has 2008 been for you so far?
Hi Tom & Maja, good talking to you as always. Happy to celebrate the Psylicious Radio show's 1st birthday with you all.
2008 has started kinda slow for me, on gigs terms I mean. But it got a lot better till March, and I can smile again, I’m just like a small boy when it comes to parties, just love them, and wish for as many as possible.
02: You've been making music since 1997 what got you interested in Producing Psy Trance?
Well that’s kinda common answer here, most artist will say the same. My first psy trance experience was when I was 14, that’s where I saw the first party.
What can I say, it was love at first sight, the massive power of that, just took me away and I all ready knew that’s what I want to do in my life. So I kept going to psy parties on regular basis, at least once a week. When I was 16, I played my first gig as a dj, with DAT tapes, it was still underground, and no where you could buy psy releases yet.
03: How did the Safi Connection concept start for you?
It was a process, I started as Sonichaos, then Todra, afterwards Safi Connection came to life in late 2000.
Me, Astrix & Atomic pulse, rented a studio, and we divided the work 8 hours a day for each of us. Astrix was and still is my biggest inspiration. Avi - astrix, is an amazing person and super talented artist, and I have the luck to work in same studio with him for almost 2 years.
04: With a catalogue of releases by you, what has been your own favourite release you have made?
As an electronic artist we always aim to progress in sound quality & technics, so I think every new releases counts as best in our point of view. I’m looking fwd to my upcoming album "SPAM FILTER", it due to beginning of September. I have 4 original psy vocal tunes there. It will be released through DIGITAL REALITY records from Sweden, it’s a new but very promising label from Sweden. I assume that in a year it will be one of the biggest psy labels.
05: You Dj & play LIVE, what do you prefer to play and what has been you most memorable gig?
I definitely prefer live act, cause some thing happening to me when I see people reacting to music that comes from my mind & heart, and it’s a huge satisfaction. I also like Dj'ing, and I have a monthly 2 hour show on 15 radio stations world wide, in the last 1.5 year. The show called "Parallel Realms".
06: 2008 has been a busy time for you, and the V/A compilation Shock Blast is about to be released, tell us about this release?
Yes it was, and hopefully it will continue that way.
V/A compilation Shock Blast is inspired by Ed Tangent, which I met early this year, and he came with the idea of launching PsyCore records.
Its a variety compilation, with tunes that reaches the both scales of listeners, starting with Hujaboy, with a power full tune, that points more of what you call "psy night music", which is more massive beats and less melodies, the cd ends with BPM , new talented producers from Serbia, we can identify them by there smooth morning psy groove, and high cut melodies. The cd features: HUJABOY, INTERGALACTIC, SAFI CONNECTION, 2 MINDS, HOLOGRAM, PSYCHO PUNK, BPM & More. I think it’s a great compilation, a must have in every psy DJ music collection.
07: It is great to see you playing in the UK, at the Shamania Festival in August, this must be one festival you are looking forward to playing at?
You bet I am! I’m excited to play in the UK again. I came back from Mexico city yesterday, and I had a stop in Amsterdam, so in 1 of the coffee shops I was seating near a group of people from the UK, and I over heard them speaking about Shamania . I was proud to say: "ill play there guys, it will be killer festival, with amazing line up, beautiful location, and lots of good vibes".
08: What other plans/projects do you have in 2008?
I just came from Mexico, and in 2 weeks ill be at Xiabalba festival at Poland, in August I’m heading to: Austria, Sweden, UK, Spain, Greece, Russian federation . September I have India tour, and Greece again. October I'll be in Brasil for 4-5 gigs.
You can see more at my home page, and Myspace.
09: When you are not producing music or performing at events and festivals, what do you enjoy doing the most?
The best thing for me is being with my wife & daughter, doing whatever possible, my daughter in not 3 yet and she visited, Japan, and Chile(twice) , its great to travel , its the ultimate Charger I think .
I also love watching sports, football mostly. I have all of the premier league live, and I try not to miss a game. I think your country is blessed with such amazing footy.
10: Michel it’s been a great pleasure to have you here on the Psylicious Radio show and the shows 1st birthday. Before we listen to your live set you have kindly provided for us, is there anything you would like to add to this interview?
It was a pleasure on this end as well. With my line of work, I meet people from all around the globe, great people which I would probably won’t meet in other circumstances. That is one of my biggest inspirations. Hope I can always work in music, that’s one of the things that always makes me happy.
Thanks Tom & Maja.

Interview on HARDER FASTER ::: Getting connected w by HARDER FASTER Getting connected with Safi Connection
Reported by Psylicious / Submitted 25-06-08 18:06.34
Better known as the Israeli psy trance act Safi Connection, Mishel Bitton has been making music for the past 11 years. Safi has taken Mishel around the world, performing live as well as DJing. One of three creators of the infamous ‘plastic’ bass line that is used so often in today’s music along with his counterparts Astrix and Atomic Pulse, the Safi Connection is also about constant barrier pushing, along with an enthusiasm that can not be dismissed. When it comes to psy trance, Mishel Bitton is certainly on the ball and always ahead, constantly evolving…
It has been two years since Mishel set foot on English soils, so it’s with great pleasure that Safi Connection once again connects with the UK. This time it’s at the UK’s only psy trance Festival, Shamania.
Mishel, many thanks for taking time to answer a few questions here on HarderFaster. How is life with you?
Hello Tom it’s a pleasure on my side talking to you. Life has been great, I finished my album recently and with this fantastic Euro 2008 running, I can’t complain.
Have you always been musical from a young age and what initially got you into producing psy trance?
Well actually I wasn’t. Music was always in my heart, and I guess this is the voice that led me through the years. I grow up being a surfer, kind of ordinary and I never learned music when I was a child or played an instrument. I guess it all have been more easy if I did. I think that electronic music today combines techniques with music skills, so it opens a path to more producers, I guess. I started make music back in ’97 with Izik Benisti; we made the Sonichaos project.
You have been making music since 1997, starting out as Sonichaos with the album ‘The Sonichaos’ being released through Planet Music. How has your sound evolved from that first album release to what we now know as Safi Connection?
In Sonichaos we made the whole album on one sampler and one synth + Atari XT, with a black and white screen (at that time Cubase worked only on Atari). Today with the virtual studio technique you can have infinite synthesizers and sound + live processing. If we wanted to make that in ’97, we’d have needed a 1 million pound studio.
The first Safi Connection album was made with Tamir Ozana aka Atomic Pulse. Actually we all shared one studio: me, Tamir and Avi Shmaiolv aka Astrix. It was great experience; Avi is a superb human being and an extremely talented artist.
So tell us Mishel, how did the infamous Safi Connection concept start for you?
I can’t really pinpoint, but I think we brought a new sound, that plastic bass line that you hear today everywhere, we made it first! Astrix, Atomic Pulse and me.
Safi Connection has taken you all round the world. What has been your main highlight so far, given the album release and the many places you’ve performed live?
I’ve had a few. Morocco’s Rhythm of Peace, cause my Mom was born there, so it was kinda of a roots thing. But the most impressing gig was Summer Arcade 2002, on Mount Fuji in Japan. It was actually the last psy event there, cause the government closed the area there. I was playing in front of 20,000 people, and the Fuji mountain was in my face — it felt like a dream. For the record, I think that every party has its magic.
You last performed here in the UK two years ago, so I expect you’re as happy as your UK fans to be playing at the psy trance festival Shamania? What can the Shamania crowd expect to hear from you?
Well, my latest music. I can’t explain what it is exactly, it’s Safi. Expect surprises!
There is already some good connecting going on with you here in the UK and 2008 sees the debut album launch V/A — Shock Blast on PsyCore Records. Could you please tell us about this?
I actually feel great about it. I met Ed Tangent, few months ago, I really like his unique DDing style and he is heading for good times with PsyCore, I think we all are. It’s a spicy V/A, I can’t talk about my tunes there, but the other tunes there are killa, as we say in the full-on world. There are also great upcoming releases from PsyCore, I suggest checking www.psycore.eu, to keep updated.
Recently you came on board with Psylicious Collective and management, again a UK connection, that also branches over to the USA through Psylicious. Readers can hear you perform a live set for the Psylicious Radio Show’s 1st Birthday on 6th July via Audio Addictz Psy Trance Web Radio and, I must say it is a great way to celebrate and get ready for what is ahead the following month at Shamania!
I total agree with that, psy streaming is getting more and more requested by a lot of new people, and that’s what we want. I’m happy to participate in the show, and looking forward to it. I will make a special mix for that show, with some juicy sick stuff. So listen to the birthday show here: http://radio.audioaddictz.co.uk/
Who in your eyes are the DJs and live acts to look out for and really take notice of?
Music-wise, Infected Mushroom, Astrix and Eskimo. I think Infected took it to another level though. Eskimo — Junya — is one hell of a genius. I think he is the number one psy head of the last two years.
When your not producing, touring etc, what do you enjoy doing with your spare time? You don’t seem to get much free time to your self!
I have a small family, a wife and a 2.5 year daughter. I love spending time with them, it’s my biggest inspiration. Too much travelling makes you tired for sure, but I can’t complain, it’s a great job. Any creation is good for the mind and soul.
Mishel, it’s been a great pleasure chatting with you and I’m sure Safi Connection fans will be seeing more of you here in the UK soon. Do you have any final words of wisdom?
Thanks Tom, it’s been a pleasure.
