An award winning songwriter, Shawn moved to Nashville from Boston in 2003 to delve deeper into the roots of the music he loved. Upon his arrival in music city, Shawn began working as a dishwasher in the famed Bluebird Cafe. His first performance opportunity came some months later when he was called to the stage from the kitchen. With the dirty apron still on he nervously played his song titled "Ol Cook Pot", a quirky, timeless song about the struggles of a single mother trying to feed her hungry children in hard times. Two years later that very song found it's way onto the opening track of The Duhks Grammy nominated record "Migrations" and has become a staple in their live performances around the world.
As a performer and guitarist, Shawn has made sizable waves sharing the stage with many, many great artists including Steve Earle, Amelia White, Thad Cockerell, IkBen, Charlie Degenhart, Emily West, Cowboy Jack Clement, Anne McCue, Kevin Montgomery, Ashton Shepherd, Mando Seanz and countless others.
Shawn's self produced record "But I Digress" released in 2007 was released to rave reviews with standout live performances to boot. The Nashville Scene said it best: "Shawn Byrne takes an expansive view on the possibilities of roots music."
