PlayPine And The Dogwood

by Patrick Hurd

Based on the Christian legend of the dogwood tree, this is a unique and inspirational song with a profound message: God exalts the humble and the proud he does not see. The song begins with a pine boasting of how stately he is. How he can see "the eagle's wings" and "valleys down below". So he asks the lowly dogwood, "Do you long to be a pine?". The dogwood answers the pine with a question of his own that quickly ends the debate: "Did you ever form a cross?".
