Many thanks for all who voted this piece to Winner of Guitar Solo channel July 2008. I have no retired this composition from competition as you cant really ask for more than a number one once with a particular song
Portencross is a small village situated on the coast just north of Seamill, Ayrshire on the west coast of Scotland. There is a ruined castle dating back to the 13th century where ancient kings of Scotland were taken on their deaths prior to sailing to the Western Isles for burial. Just along from the castle there is a small harbour and an old pier popular with fishermen and sightseers alike. It is a beautiful spot with magnificent views to the Isle Of Arran (pictured in the background), Millport, Bute and even Ben Lomond on a clear day
I spent a lot of time there in my teenage years clambering about the old pier and fishing and return there often to enjoy the views, the sense of peace and the sound and smell of the sea crashing around the pier and rocky inlets
This piece is inspired by this magical place. In it I try and capture the rolling of the waves and the haunting beauty of this ancient location. Just back from the pier there is a hill which was a fortified Celtic fort and I recommend anyone ever in the vicinity to seek out this truly inspiring location
