A singer/songwriter, Butch was born in Huntington, Wv
From a large family, dirt poor, living in Gimlet Holler on the side of a hill in a house owned by his great grandmother. Throughout hi
school years his mother was left to try and feed 7 children which were abandoned most of the time by their father who was a WWII Vet with an alcohol problem. With no electricity, no running water, and no indoor plumbing about all they had for entertainment was a guitar that their Mother played and taught most of the children to play and sing.
They sang harmony together and attended a Pentecostal Church which helped feed and clothe them. The older ones of the family usually helped with the family income
Butch, singing in church by the age of 6, learned to play guitar at the age of 8, . A very strict religion, they weren't allowed to play anything but gospel, "No 'Ditties' played in my house
But Mom taught him well and he would sneak and play R & R on the 1943 Baby Martin guitar bought by his Mom for $5. Butch still has the guitar, one of his prized possessions.
The job market brought him to Michigan when he was 19. Butch played music in local bands until 2001, with some very succesful tours and venues. His talents were singing lead and harmony, playing rythym guitar and some leads. The music spanned from R & R to Southern Rock & Country
Bands that he played in; The Few, Redeye, & Streetcorner. These days, retired, his love of music, hard times, and good times inspires writing songs that are heartfelt, and mostly true, with a few embellishments.
