About Chandler Hurd
The Big Chill, The Cream of Clapton, and The Best of Van Morrison- consider these Chandler Hurd's starting point. Despite them all basically being Greatest Hits albums, not a bad foundation for a singer/songwriter, right? Growing up on Long Island, just outside of the Big Apple, Chandler's parents constantly had these albums (among countless others) playing around the house and in the car. By the age of 14 Chandler took up the guitar and began to teach himself how to sing while playing. This quickly lead him to begin writing his own songs throughout High School. "Nothing I wrote before college should ever be heard by human ears. Thank God no one told me I sucked," Chandler openly jokes about his beginnings in music. While at college in Baltimore, Chandler started focusing on his writing and continued to expand his musical influences by growing his c.d. collection with everything from Paul Simon to Kanye West. Before long he decided to play some of his tunes at the weekly open mic night held on campus. He quickly realized that playing in front of people and joking around while he had their attention was way too much fun. This lead to constantly trying to write "really good solid catchy songs" with the intention of performing them. After graduation, he decided music wasn't something he wanted to leave behind in Maryland. Soon after he got home, Chandler began playing shows at open mics and showcases all over NYC. With some good luck, Chandler was discovered by Izzy Gold Records in the winter of '09. With his signing to the record label, Chandler recorded a 5 song E.P. "I see this as an introduction to me and my music for everyone who doesn't know me. They are some real solid tunes that I think everybody will be able to relate to. I think it'll get people tapping their feet and maybe even humming along." Chandler hopes that people enjoy this collection of songs and looks forward to showing different musical sides in the future. Consider this your starting point with Chandler Hurd. "When you get the E.P. on your Ipod, scroll down to the "C's". I'll be between Cat Stevens and Coolio..."
