Portrait of Chris Merritt

Chris Merritt

About Chris Merritt

Brooklyn, NY

Raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, Chris Merritt is an authentic voice that cuts through the clatter with objectively good music from the heart. He cleverly blends the sounds of piano-driven rock, pop, rhythm and blues with a genuine wit that's distinctively his own. As one critic mused, Merritt's "voice and delivery draw you in to find out what happens next."
- The Washington Post

Chris has written and recorded over 1500 original songs and performed hundreds of shows across the U.S., Canada and Japan with his trio, consisting of Chris on keys/lead vocals, a bassist and drummer. He was chosen for the "Top Six" in Billboard Magazine's Indie World Series, opened a show for rock legend Ben Folds, lent songs to two independent films, received major FM radio airplay across the country, and recorded three self-released albums. His September 2009 release, "Virginia Is For Hoverers (part one)", is being described as "intimate, joyful, personal, unpretentious." His dream of succeeding as a full-time musician led him to move across the country to LA then Utah, but he couldn't stay away from the East Coast for long. He now resides in New York City, where he's performed at famous venues such as The Living Room, Arlene's Grocery, Rockwood Music Hall and The Bitter End.

Even as an independent artist, Chris's quirky, infectious style is gaining him a steadily growing following throughout the world.
