About Eric Hill (Music)
For Memphis, Tennessee's twenty-one-year-old singer/songwriter Eric Hill, the experience of writing, co-producing, and recording his debut EP, Few and Far Between
, is one that he will certainly never forget, “If I had to pick a favorite moment, it would be the first time I listened to the album from start to finish.”
Hill's fusion of "singer/songwriter pop and 'jam band' rock" remarkably displays a wide, transparent array of influences, such as "Dallas Green, John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band, Fleetwood Mac and Jerry Garcia," and does so with both finesse and imagination. And while the topics of his songs vary from high school memories to recollections of complex relationships, their messages come across in a clear, relatable fashion.
It was during his time at military school that Hill taught himself how to play guitar. "We had no TV, radio, or personal Internet," says the singer, "and could only write letters to our parents or siblings, so all the letters I would have written to this girl back home became songs." It was the bulk of this material that Hill took to engineer Vincent Leffler at Memphis' Apogee Sound, where he began recording Few and Far Between
in April. Few and Far Between
was released during Hill's fall performance at Stop 345 in downtown Memphis. Digital copies of the EP are now available through iTunes
and other major digital music retailers.
