Fuze is a modern electric jazz-rock band that creates all original and improvised music blending rock beats with jazz improvisations.
The band started around 1995 as a weekly jam session amongst friends where no boundaries or set lists were used and the band just improvised. This type of improvisation was a little different than typical jazz improv or jam band improv in that the tune itself was improvised rather than just soloing over a standard progression.
As the years passed, the band developed some songs and started honing their unique blend of rock and jazz, funk and blues into a modern and fresh instrumental sound. Instrumentation changes with Joe and Craig being multi instrumentalists providing even more variety to the weekly jams.
Around the year 2000, the band joined up with Doug Nolls on bass guitar and continued to compose songs and produced a CD called DiG which was released by the band on the internet meeting great response from fusion and progressive rock fans alike. They topped the jazz charts at various times on MP3.com before it went defunct.
Around the year 2006, Doug left the band as Dave Kneeves joined on lead guitar and synth guitar bringing a heavier approach from Dave's metal background. The improvisation sessions were brought back and the band continued to produce composed songs as well releasing the CD Pop Fuze as well as a Best of Saturday Night Jams CD with a collection of the best improvised jams from the weekly sessions.
The band continues to improvise and compose songs and is breaking new ground with the addition of Dave's Megatar (like a Chapman Stick) taking yet another turn in the styles coming out of the band.
