Portrait of Janet Kapuya

Janet Kapuya

About Janet Kapuya

athens, Greece

Latin,Jazz,Tango Argentino.
Everything about Janet Kapuya is multi-dimensional. Her multi-faceted voice. Her multi-layered style. Her plural talents. Janet is a wonderful singer possessing a most spectacular range existing in music! Her given name is Janet Myriam Kapuya. She was born in Uruguay and like all naturally gifted musicians she originally comes from a family of musicians.

Janet was born an entertainer. She started her career when she was really very young. Thus, from the tender age of four Janet was already performing on the Radio of her country, Uruguay, and won the first award in a music contest on Radio Carbe at Montevideo.
When she was eight years old, she started her professional career and was educated in live performance, dancing, singing, acting, and interpretation in first, second, and third voice (trio). She performed live on TV shows for five years and people loved her for being so spontaneous and so responsible despite the young of her age!

When she was thirteen, her family moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina. There Janet had the opportunity to study arts (acting, live performance, singing, dancing, painting, sculpture and the art of making jewelry). During her teens she turned out to be one of the most talented singers in the Tango repertoire and became very well known in Argentina. She played in Tangerias and gave concerts in theaters at Buenos Aires. Janet also sang Folk music inspired from the Andes and Latin America.

She took part at Vinas Del Mar music contest, as a composer. It was not a big surprise that the reviews she received by the critics of the contest were all very good! By that time she was noticed by a group of Greek musicians, thus Janet was invited to Greece where she started a big career singing the music of the famous Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis. The Greek audience loved her for her expressive and warm voice! She became very well known and acquired a big loyal fan club. A contract with the record label C.B.S (now owned by Sony music) followed. Janet has also participated in a concert with Julio Iglesias held on the national Greek Television Channel.

She communicates with her audience in a mysterious way she sings with my all her heart and she feels the vibrations of music firstly in her bones and then she makes the whole theatre treble. She is so full of music and she has a unique talent to give her own identity to every piece of music that she sings.
