Born in Louisiana and raised in South Florida this soul stirring songstress has always had the gift of music in her bones and a desire to change lives.
At the age of three it was then that
her parents had taken notice of a significant and delightful ability that their second daughter embodied innately. “ I can remember watching the Grammy’s with my family one night and Janet Jackson was performing Control then I can remember saying to my dad, I want to do that”, Says Jita and as time went on they could truly see that not only desire was there but the ability and potential was as
From the tender age of seven this young siren has been performing all over South Florida in venues
that included local parades, international conventions, churches, local talent shows, Heat games and a
long list of others. Her desire to be on stage and to sing was unshakable. During the early years of stage performances she was regarded as a young Whitney Houston.
Raised in the church and brought up in the knowledge of who God is, Jita was sensitive to the gentile pull of the Holy Spirit. In 1994 at the age of twelve, during a sermon in North Miami, she was compelled to accept the Lord as her personal Savior. By the time she was seventeen, she decided to be obedient to the call and offer her voice back to the Lord in song. “Ever since I can remember I have always had the feeling that I was supposed to be singing for God.”
The exposure to gospel greats like Shirley Caesar, The Clark Sisters and others like Aretha Franlin , Patti Labelle, Whitney Houston and a host of others was very influential to her. Jita grew up with the sounds
of Motown flowing through the house and at the same time “The Sound of Music’ would be on the television.
The city of Miami, being as culturally eclectic as it is, also offered its rich soulful assortment of flavor that intrigued her as well. With such an intense appreciation for all types and styles of music from Motown to classical to alternative to jazz, it is evident that elements from these styles play an integral part in the uniquely smooth sound that is Jita.
In the year 2000 the neo soul gospel music group Affusion ( made up of Jita her hubby, Clinton and
brother in law, Kevin) debuted their album Spread the Word and today they continue to do just that for the kingdom of God.
With a heart and passion for God, this singer/song writer has counted it a privilege to spread the good
news of Jesus Christ in a such a way that is refreshing , to the listener while being centered in truth. When asked about where her ideas come from Jita replies, “My music is from God and its only Him who truly inspires me to do what I do. I’m honored to know Him, and I want others to truly know Him as well.’
