KING TAPPA -REPRESENTING THE ISLAND OF DOMINIC
His performing name is King Tappa but he was born Kurt Prince, in 1979. Kurt grew up in Marigot and attended the Weirs Marigot Government School up to the age of 10. He left Dominica in 1989 for St. Croix. In 1992 he moved from St.Croix and now makes his home in New Jersey
Music has always been a big part of his family. It is not surprising that, Kurt remembers singing and free styling at the age of 14 and four years later that he decided to take music seriously. He started to write songs and did numerous performances, with Gyptian, Tanya Stephens at Marigot complex. He mainly sang dancehall music. As King Tappa he has moved into the more conscious Reggae music. He is inspired by international Reggae artists such as Steel Pulse, Beres Hammond, Culture, Gregory Issac, Capleton and Morgan Heritage
King Tappa is also a DJ and plays for Power Sound, based in Newark NJ/Albany NY. The highlight of his performing career so far has been performing with Elephant Man at the Robert Treat Hotel, Newark NJ, 2004 and then again in 2005 in Nashville, Tennessee
Apart from Kurt Prince aka King Tappa's love for music, his biggest Passion is a love for childrens well being and their education
In 2006 King Tappa in collaboration with Powersound held their first book drive for the children of the Marigot Primary School, where he attended as a little boy. And he plans to continue this effort for years to come.
King Tappa isn’t the kind of person to forget his roots. The looks on the children's faces made King Tappa look forward to putting another book drive together. We’ll have to keep our eye and ears open for King Tappa achievements
King Tappa had some very successful event in Dominica during the past two years. The first was a Unification dance which was held in Marigot at the Jefrey disco, secondly was a beach fest held at Big Papa’s and thirdly was his incredible performance during the Marigot Reunion 07
The community is still talking about his outstanding performance on the Talent Night of the Marigot Reunion
