Portrait of Lea Holz

Lea Holz

About Lea Holz

Boulder, CO

Born in the Midwest and raised by a family of artists and musicians, Lea Holz picked up a keyboard when she was four--a dusty Casio no longer than her arm--and locked herself in her bedroom. Twenty years later, she has emerged with a powerfully-moving repertoire, a voice that can melt butter, and an unquenchable thirst for all that is honest, passionate, and raw. (She has a fancier keyboard now, although she sometimes misses the old one, and she still locks herself in her bedroom to write, but her mom doesn’t worry quite as much anymore.) When she was in college, an award-winning and well-respected poet emphasized to Lea that writing about the extraordinary is easy; it is making the ordinary seem extraordinary that is the goal of the artist. This is what she strives to do with her music, one song at a time. Intrigued by the natural dichotomies and polarities present in everyday life, fascinated by the human experience, Lea Holz writes with a natural empathy, producing songs that range from rich melancholy and lush sensuality one moment to shocking, blunt quirkiness the next. With this unique sound, she creates a connective tissue with her music that communicates something beautiful and soulful, allowing her listeners to reach into their core and pull something out, whatever that may be. Self-taught, self-motivated, self-actualized, and fast-becoming one of Sheboygan’s most promising and well-loved new talents, Lea Holz has opened for acts such as Pezzettino, Vanessa Peters, Gregory Douglass and Lillie Lemon.
