About Leota Penney
Northridge, CA
Leota has been singing since the age of 7 and songwriting since the age of 9. She sings every style of music. At the age of 17, she was first place finalist (Opera) in the SCVA Solo Competion and was also a semi-finalist (Opera) in the Music Center Spotlight Awards (Dorothy Chandler). While earning her Bachelor of Music in Opera Performance from California State University Northridge, Leota performed the lead role of Yum Yum in The Mikado and Sister Genovieffa in Suor Angelica and was a member of Northridge Singers, the highly acclaimed California State Northridge Choir and winners of the Choir of the World Competition at the Eistedfodd International Choral Festival in Wales, United Kingdom. While she loves and appreciates her opera training every day while teaching, Leota’s full attention turned to her songwriting after college. Be it on piano, guitar, or beats, Leota continues to sculpt her songwriting skills and has performed all around Los Angeles in venues such as The Opium Den, The Space, The Monsoon Café, Platinum Live, The Roxy, Hallenbecks, Ghengis Cohen, Forbidden City and others. Leota's music video "All About You" (can be seen below or on YouTube) premiered this year, 2009, at the Dances With Films Festival in Hollywood, Ca.
