About Nautical Young
Hamilton , NY
When four musical artists, each talented in their own right, met through serendipitous events in a recording studio at Colgate University in Spring, 2009, they quickly realized something amazing was about to happen. Like the Nautical Star that was used to provide direction to journeymen long ago, the group Nautical Young, takes listeners on a musical journey created thought the blending of four diverse lives and sets of influences, mixed with passion and a love of great music, and a dash of light-hearted energy. Nautical Young combines melodic hooks with fun, entertaining lyrics over and energetic, “get-on-the-dancefloor” beats, and have been compared to the Black Eyed Peas.
Collin McLoughlin, from Westchester County, NY, a talented singer, songwriter and guitar impresario, provides rich lyrics, melodic hooks and a pop/rock foundation to build on. Writing music since high school, McLoughlin brings the group a style rarely heard in traditional hip-hop or electronic music helping expand the group’s diverse sound and listening base.
Gspence, a native of Anaheim CA, brings with him a west-coast swagger which breathes intensity. Creating tracks since high school, Gspence’s skills in the lab, along with his captivating verses and synth-heavy ballads provide the group with its energetic direction. He currently handles all the production work.
Ty Henry, out of Orlando, FL provides an energetic flow that reflects an honest approach to everyday life. Ty spent the majority of his life playing football and basketball, earning a scholarship to Colgate through his prowess on the football field. Ty quickly became friends with Uzoma and Gspence, also on the team. Ty brings an element to his lyrics that are easily relateable, and his style is one of a kind.
Uzoma Idah, born in Nigeria, was raised on the traditional Nigerian Afropop djembe-based melodies. After moving to the US several years ago, he began playing football as a junior in high school. His massive success led to a scholarship at Colgate. His amazing journey is expressed through his lyrics and soulful voice, that reflect the ever-present Nigerian influence on his musical vibe.
Within one month of working together, Nautical Young begin performing live, amassing enough support to secure opening slots with Lupe Fiasco and Brother Ali. Spring, 2010 brings opening slots for Fabolous and Wale as well as shows at several colleges in the NorthEast.
Nautical Young’s first mixtape, "Just in Time," is being released by DJ Benzi on April 8, 2010. Nautical Young is looking forward to supporting the release with live performances as well as spending more time in the studio.
