About OpenFate

Bend, OR

OpenFate - Band Biography
Rich Katzman: Guitar, Vocals
Born in Los Angeles, CA, grew up in Encinitas, CA, where he started as a lead singer in local bands. He started playing guitar and singing at the age of 17, influenced by bands like, Pennywise, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Cure, Soundgarden, Breaking Benjamin, Match Box 20, Blink 182, and The Cult. He moved up to Bend, OR in the late 90’s, where he met bass player, Jason Johnson. He decided to carry his music ideas forward after playing on and off for a few years with Jason and the straight-forward rock-alternative band, OpenFate, was born in 2010!
Jason Johnson: Bass Guitar, Vocals
Born in Renton, WA, he grew up in Redmond, OR where he went to school. Learned from a folk-style guitar teacher, finger picking the acoustic guitar at the age of 14 which made bass guitar a natural transfer for him. Influenced by guitar virtuosos, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Buckethead, Paul Gilbert, Les Claypool, Victor Wooten and Stevie Ray Vaughn, as well as, bands like Metallica, Primus, Poison, Bon Jovi, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mudvayne, Guns n Roses, Suicidal Tendencies, Pantera, Blink 182 and Breaking Benjamin. He moved next door to Rich and started playing bass with him often. Jason was introduced to Tim Price at a local music show in Bend and they became close friends. Started playing bass to Tim’s amazing drumming techniques. Rich came over one night and played with Tim and Jason and it was a very natural fit!
Tim Price: Drums
Born in Bend, OR and went to high school in Redmond, OR, he was influenced by bands like Blink 182, Static X, Adema, Bullet for My Valentine, Miss May I. He sold his dirt bike to buy his first drum kit at the age of 20. As a long-haul truck driver, he used to carry his drum kit with him in the cab of the truck and set up his kit on the side of the highway, where he played drums to his favorite bands in his head phones (in the rain, in open fields, whenever he could get a break). Tim stopped truck driving to pursue his drumming, doing what he loves for a living! Tim was drumming in several bands when he met Jason and Rich. He became friends with Rich and Jason and put their band, OpenFate, together. Tim decided this was the right band and friendship for him, parting ways from his other bands to start pursuing his dream of playing his drums for a living!
All became great friends with one vision, to share their music with the world!
