About Philocratjt

London, United Kingdom

Philocrat J T, though classically trained, is a technologically driven Jazz Musician and producer than a full performing artist. A huge amount of his time is used experimenting and improvising to discover new generations of complex but heavenly sweet sounds. He has composed, arranged, performed and produced an amazing array of unconventional jazz tracks using the latest gears in music technology.

On the following tracks on his Talking Piano albums, Philocrat JT demonstrates multi-drumming techniques using a set of rules that he invented on his music production workstations;

(1) Equality from Chaos
(2) Good Times
(3) Dancing under the African Sun

The technique applied in (1) is simply a drum pattern queue using time delays between intervals. The multi-drummer effect on Equality from Chaos track was achieved by queuing two or more drum patterns with a few seconds delay intervals between them.

The multi-drumming effects achieved in (2) and (3) took a completely different turn. These were achieved by combining two or multiple musical environments, the MIDI and STEREO sound sourcing and production environments, superimposing one upon the other. For example, to get the 'RAINING DRUM EFFECT' in the middle of 'Good Times' track, the stereo sound field had to be superimposed upon the midi sound system, one in the background and the other in the foreground. Together, they added amazing sound textures into the production.

Philocrat was once asked why he uses so many instruments (conventional and non-conventional ones) in nearly all his performances. His answer was "Raw Sounds and their ‘Free Positioning’ in the stereo fields". In other words, leave every sound in the stereo field where they naturally occurred. This clearly explains why he retired every mastering systems ever given to him (software or hardware-based). Nearly, every track is hand-crafted, arranged and programmed onto the production workstations and performed live and unproduced. So frankly, what you hear are pure raw sounds chaotically left in their stereo fields as they naturally occur while performing live. Controversial as this may sound from the conventional music production point of view, it seems that Philocrat J T in a strange kind of way is done and dusted with mastered clean cut sounds that the old school is used to. Well, as fans, you be the judge on what you hear.
Philocrat JT is currently busy unravelling new generations of complex sound techniques that he wishes to share both with his fans and the music production world.
