At the age of 9 during a talent show at a hotel, Erica Buddington performed her first poem and has been addicted to the stage ever since. An avid journal collector, freestyle emcee, and poet, she took over the lunchroom ciphers in high school as well as wrote her way through most classes. Blessed with the name "Riva" because of her fast flow by an onlooker at a freestyle battle, she's taken the world by storm.
At the age of 16, she won Brave New Voices Slam Competition in San Fransisco with her New York team Urban Word NYC. At 18, she was featured on Russell Simmons' HBO's Def Poetry. (Season 6, Episode 3) She has performed on the same stage as Arrested Development, Dead Prez, Mos Def, Cornel West, Talib Kweli, Chrisette Michele and many more renowned poets/emcees. She frequently performs at many forums and features in venues and universities all over the country.
A Hampton University Graduate, primary school educator, photographer, writer, and graphic designer, "Riva" is a jill of all trades. Currently "Riva" is writing her first book, teaching secondary curricula, planning a move to California, and working on her first official mixtape entitled "F.L.O.W. 101."
