Portrait of Scot Lee

Scot Lee

Portrait of Scot Lee
Singer/pianist Scot Lee picked the very best material for this recording: jazz standards from the 1930's and 1940's like George and Ira Gershwin's "Our Love Is Here To Stay", Buddy Johnson's "Since I Fell For You", and Jimmy Van Heusen's "Imagination". Lush chords and accurate, understated vocals make Scot a natural; for a mellow evening of listening. The arrangements are spare with just vocal; and piano, and I would have appreciated the addition of a small combo on many of the tracks. The track with the most life of the bunch was, appropriately,, "That's Life", by Dean Kay and Kelly Gordon. In a departure from the old standards, Tom Waits' "New Coat of Paint" gets moving with some fabulous piano, but was diminished by poor-quality reverb on the vocal. Still I expect fans will scoop up this CD. (note: the "poor-quality reverb" on the vocal has been corrected).
