The Doubting Thomas Band

About The Doubting Thomas Band

Charlotte, NC

Doubting Thomas is Gina Stewart, Brenda Gambill, Bill Carroll, Irwin "Virgil" Bostian, and Mark McColl. The heart of this Carolina-based band began to beat when singers/songwriters Stewart and Gambill met for the first time in 1986. Gina had just wrapped a stint as bassist with Capitol Records/ new-pop rockers Fetchin'Bones when she met Brenda, an extraordinary Generation-X poet and violinist. In 1989 Doubting Thomas was born, and in 1990 they were voted "Most Impressive Newcomer" of the North Carolina Showcase.

Stewart's lead vocals and acoustic guitar and Gambill's violin and harmonica are the soul of this eclectic rock band. Carroll's melodic bass and Bostian's electric guitar along with McColl's steadfast drums and percussion underscore "delicately intertwined harmonies" and smart, sensitive lyrics. the band has carved out an impressive place for themselves on the club and college circuits - performing over 200 dates a year - and has quickly gained top standing in their home region clubs.

Blue Angel, the band's first album, was produced by John Keane with guest turns from Peter Buck and Bill Berry of R.E.M. Their second release, Two, features special guest Emily Saliers (Indigo Girls) on the track "Tiny Lights." Their new 13-song release, Who Died And Made You King, was also produced by Keane. The record has been hailed as their best work to date.

Whether they're thrilling a packed house with one of their driving rock-pop numbers, or hypnotizing them with a poignant ballad, Doubting Thomas always finds believers in the audience. And there just isn't any doubt about that.
